AMORY STREET REMEDIATION
Roxbury, MA

OWNER: Department of Neighborhood Development, City of Boston

ENGINEER: GEI Consultants

CONTRACT VALUE: $115,000

CONTRACT DATES: Aug 2021 – Dec 2021

Amory Street Soil Remediation (Ward 11/Parcel 01174000) project involved the excavation and off-site disposal of contaminated debris from an overgrown lot at 40 Amory Street in Roxbury, MA.

Over 750 tons of impacted soil and debris was transported and disposed of to two
separate receiving facilities. Approximately 100 tons of material was processed
as Non-TSCA less than 50-ppm PCB remediation waste. The additional soil was
transported to an in-state unlined landfill under a MA BOL for beneficial
re-use.

The Site’s proximity to busy Columbus Avenue and local public transportation stops
created a logistical challenge. The Amory Street area is currently undergoing high-profile redevelopment causing an increase of construction vehicles and equipment. BHE worked with local contractors and the City of Boston Police Department to ensure work was completed safely while working within tight constraints, and with high vehicle and pedestrian traffic. The Amory Street Soil Remediation Project was funded though The City of Boston’s Department of Neighborhood Development which works closely with MassDevelopment and the Brownfields Advisory Group.
